QAGOMA is committed to representing First Australian art and cultures through collection development, exhibition programming, identified employment and professional development, community liaison, engagement and participation. Having a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) provides the tools for structuring and improving our organisation’s commitment to creating meaningful impact.

The Gallery’s inaugural RAP was in effect from January 2022 until January 2024. It was at the Innovative level (level 2). Through this RAP, QAGOMA committed to a deeper consideration of how we share and understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rich cultural histories and stories.

To acknowledge the remarkable legacy of a continuous connection with this land, the process of reconciliation is central to our values. We want to recognise and empower Indigenous peoples and be open to truth-telling, knowing the RAP affects the way we collect, display, care for and share our art holdings, with a focus on centring these voices and experiences.

QAGOMA’s Indigenous Advisory Panel has endorsed the development of a second RAP for the Gallery and planning has commenced. QAGOMA hopes to launch a new RAP by mid 2024, or as soon as possible after that time.

We report on RAP implementation through the Gallery’s Annual Report.
