About

Presented in conjunction with the Gallery exhibition ‘Contraptions’ on Level 2, GOMA (4 October 2025 - 22 February 2026).

From mad inventors to mechanical mayhem, ‘Contraptions’ explores our desire to wrestle with technology in the pursuit of efficiency, experimentation, and our curious drive to discover what is possible. A thread of whimsy, humour and the handmade runs throughout many of these films which feature inventors tinkering in their sheds, hot-rod cars that have a mind of their own and various ways to deal with technological overwhelm. Many of the films feature elaborate props, madcap physical comedy and playful technological innovations.

The program will feature a selection of films for kids on Saturday mornings as well as a Live Music & Film event featuring The Navigator 1924 and musician David Bailey on the Gallery’s Wurlitzer organ.

Film screenings to be annouced soon.
