About

Walt Disney followed up his popular early Mickey Mouse cartoons with the Silly Symphonies — dynamically choreographed musical animations. Inaugurated with The Skeleton Dance 1929, the Silly Symphonies continued to be produced throughout the following decade reworking classical tales and nursery rhymes to soundtracks ranging from jazz and popular classics to original compositions. The Australian Cinémathèque program of 35 Silly Symphonies is the largest ever to be presented internationally.

LECTURE: Silly Symphonies
Russell Merritt, co-author with JB Kaufman of Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies: A Companion to the Classic Cartoon Series (Cineteca del Friuli, Italy, 2006), the first in-depth exploration of the Disney series.
