About
Le Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon) 1902
One of the first science fiction films ever made, A Trip to the Moon, created in 1902 by French illusionist and film director George Méliès is an incredible combination of stunning set design and fantastical imaginings of a journey into space. The film follows a group of scientists who build a rocket and fly to the moon only to crash land in the moon’s eye. They explore the moonscape, watch planet earth from afar and contend with bewitching creatures. This screening is a digital restoration meticulously reconstructed from a 35mm film print of a colour version thought to be lost with a futuristic soundtrack by Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills.

Moulin Rouge! 2001
1899 Paris is given a contemporary musical twist in this daring depiction of the infamous, gaudy and glamorous Parisian nightclub Moulin Rouge.
An unconventional melding of gorgeous period design by costume and production designer Catherine Martin and modern-era pop tunes, this dualistic film doesn’t let the rules stand in its way. When writer Christian (Ewan McGregor) becomes intertwined with Paris’s most adored courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman), he finds himself plunged into this decadent world where anything goes, except falling in love.
