About
Dead Slow Ahead is set aboard a slow moving cargo ship carrying wheat on a two-month journey across the Atlantic Ocean. Part dystopian sci-fi, part cinéma vérité, the film documents life on-board the vessel – from vivid sunsets to the Filipino sailors below deck tending to their work. Director Mauro Herce focuses less on the individual stories of the crew and instead creates a cinema of empathy and allegory, calling for the viewer to give over to the epic cinematic experience. The unstoppable voyage of the freighter evokes links to humanity's inability to stop its relentless progress to what can feel like inevitable self-destruction. Winner of the Special Jury prize at Locarno 2015.
