About
In Free Fall 2010
Directed by German filmmaker, visual artist and writer Hito Steyerl, In Free Fall is a thought-provoking reflection upon the life cycle of material objects.
Referring to writer Sergej Tretiakov’s 1929 essay "Biography of the Object", the film charts the material life cycle of a singular object – the Boeing 707-700 4X-JYI airplane – as it moves from functional object to scrap, after which, it is then transformed into an image that is then mass produced and printed on to a DVD, which is ultimately scrapped once again.
Highlighting the capitalist cycles of image and object creation, Steryerl’s reflexive experimental short blurs the line between documentary and fiction, challenging ideas relating to representation, truth and consumption.

Asia One 2018
A vivid, futurist vision of modern industry, Asia One by contemporary artist Cao Fei is a playful and poignant commentary on the current state of China’s economic and social development.
Centered on the seemingly mundane tasks of two warehouse workers (and their robot assistant), the film quickly diverts into the territories of fantasy, as bored workers play among the conveyor belts and goods chutes, and imaginary dancers perform 1960s routines and Cultural Revolution-era model operas to the tune of 1990s pop hits, using gigantic desktop objects as props.
Reflecting Cao Fei’s continued interest in the impact of advanced economic growth and technological development on society, Asia One is a neon-tinted, trans-temporal narrative feature that comments on the role of China's past in imaging its global future.
