Ryusuke Hamaguchi developed the three part, four hour Intimacies while teaching at ENBU Seminar, a film and theatre school based in Tokyo. The film tracks the tumultuous production and staging of a play in a work that blends documentary and fiction. Hamaguchi uses students and staff from ENBU to imbue the film with an immersive realism, culminating in the complete realisation of the play on screen. Intimacies is a key milestone in the evolution of Hamaguchi as a filmmaker, showcasing his formal curiosity and unique directorial vision.
