Something is stirring under the water’s surface. After a late-night swim has unexpected consequences, the mayor of a popular beachside holiday town announces it was just a boating accident. An iconic horror film, Jaws captured the public imagination so thoroughly that for years sharks were reviled. The film shaped not just the public perception of these ocean dwellers, but government responses to how to manage them. Australian marine conservationist Valerie Taylor was among the film crew who captured underwater footage of real sharks and later devoted her life to rewriting the narrative of how sharks behave.
