About
Made for Taiwan’s Public Television Service, this co-production between the Department of Health and the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Diseases is a heartfelt drama about a schoolboy whose medical disorder requires him to take a medicine that causes his body to produce a terrible stench. As he struggles with rejection from his peers, his mother (Tsai regular Lu Yi-ching) tries to care for him while inadvertently generating unwanted attention through her public activism on his behalf.
Tsai co-directed this moving telefilm with longtime screen collaborator Lee Kang-sheng – their sole credited directorial partnership. Although a more straightforward drama than many of his other works, My Stinking Kid retains Tsai's patient gaze, wry humour and artful compositions.
