Jacques Demy’s musical adaption of the story by Charles Perrault is an irrepressibly quirky fantasy. When a king (Jean Marais) promises his dying queen that he will only remarry a woman as beautiful as she is, their own daughter (Catherine Deneuve) must fend off his unwanted proposal with a series of tests.
