About
Storytellers is the final entry in Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Ko Sakai's 'Tohoku Trilogy'. It diverges from the previous films in the documentary series (The Sound of the Waves 2012 and Voices from the Waves 2013) by focusing on local narrators of the region's folklore, rather than on the experiences of survivors of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. As these storytellers recount parables and folk tales that have been passed down over generations, they offer guidance on how the memories of the disaster may continue to be shared while also showcasing the inextricable relationship between people, culture and storytelling.
