About
Described by its director Guillermo del Toro as his most personal film, The Devil's Backbone is a stylish and eerie tale that takes place during the dying days of the Spanish Civil War. After his father is killed in the war, the young Carlos is sent to a remote orphanage operated by a small group of anti-Franco loyalists. Carlos encounters what seems to be the ghost of a young boy and quickly finds that his investigations into the dark history of the orphanage are at cross-purposes with the sinister machinations of the caretaker Jacinto.
