About
While shooting a Don Quixote-themed commercial, director Toby (Adam Driver) recalls making his student film about the famed Man of La Mancha in a nearby Spanish village using local talent, including cobbler Javier (Jonathan Pryce) and beautiful ingénue Angelica (Joana Ribeiro). Revisiting the town on a whim, he discovers that the unfortunate legacies of his production include Javier’s delusion that he actually is Don Quixote and believes Toby is his sidekick Sancho Panza.
Monty Python alum Gilliam’s ambitious feature spawned two documentaries chronicling its protracted journey to the screen. The resulting adventure is buoyed in no small part by the comic talents of Driver and the scenery-chewing Pryce, served up with the director’s signature fantastical visuals, spectacular scenery and Roque Baños’ sweeping cinematic score.
