About
Co-produced by and partially filmed within the Louvre Museum, Tsai Ming-liang's Face is an elliptical, autobiographical meditation on filmmaking and cinema. It follows Lee Kang-sheng's director as he encounters difficulties while filming in France, an experience intensified by the death of his mother while he is away. Tsai revels in the ornate elegance of the shooting location, staging some of his most elaborate tableaus in this dreamy film that explores the struggles of communication. Along several of Tsai's most frequent acting collaborators, the cast also includes legends of French cinema including Jean-Pierre Léaud, Jeanne Moreau and Fanny Ardant.
