About

In collaboration with the Children’s Art Centre, Australian artist eX de Medici encourages children to pay close attention to insects and to think about the vital roles they play in our world. Pollinators are the key to producing our food crops, while other insects help clean up waste, control pests, and are an important source of food for other animals.

As part of ‘The Alien Others’, young visitors can look at a fascinating display of insects on loan from the Queensland Museum, and create a postcard inspired by what they see. Children will also see two large paintings of moths by eX de Medici, which she made after observing specimens at the CSIRO, Australia’s National Science Agency, and her own postcard drawing.

Visitors can learn more about insects through a selection of books, photos and videos, and experience eX’s work by touching a 3D reproduction of one of her paintings.
