Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Director Chris Saines today announced the appointment of Mr Tarun Nagesh as the Gallery’s Curatorial Manager of Asian and Pacific Art.

‘We are delighted to appoint Tarun Nagesh to this significant leadership position, building on his valuable contribution as a curator in the Gallery’s Asian and Pacific Art team for almost a decade,’ Mr Saines said.

‘Tarun will now lead our team of specialist curators to deliver the Gallery’s major summer exhibition ‘The 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT10) which opens across both Gallery sites from 4 December until 25 April, 2022.

‘In his time at QAGOMA Tarun has worked on the three previous Asia-Pacific Triennials and curated more than fifteen Asian art exhibitions and projects including ‘Problem-Wisdom: Thai Art in the 1990s’ (2017-18), ‘The Long Story’ (2017-18), ‘Indo Pop: Contemporary Indonesian Art’ (2016-17), ‘Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion’ (2015-16), ‘Hanga: Modern Japanese Prints’ (2014-15), and ‘Ah Xian: Heavy Wounds’ (2014), as well as leading major rehangs of the Collection.

‘During this time, Tarun has contributed significantly to the development of QAGOMA’s holdings of historical Asian art, led the Gallery’s Asian Art Provenance Research Project, and established an international reputation for his expertise in historical and contemporary Asian art,’ Mr Saines said.

Tarun has published widely, taken on appointments including State Representative for The Asian Arts Society of Australia and Curatorial Fellow of the Dhaka Art Summit, and judged many national and international art prizes and fellowships.

Before joining QAGOMA, Tarun worked in the commercial arts sector in Melbourne. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Honours in Visual Arts from Monash University, and a Masters of Art Curatorship from Melbourne University.
