QAGOMA Curatorial Manager appointed Director of Geelong Gallery
The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) today announced that Jason Smith, Curatorial Manager, Australian Art would leave the Gallery to take up the position of Director of Geelong Gallery in Victoria.
QAGOMA Director Chris Saines said Mr Smith, appointed to his position in August 2014, had led the Australian Art team through a significant exhibition program, culminating in the presentation of a record 17 Australian artists in ‘The 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT8), the most in an APT to date.
‘During his time here, Jason has been a guiding force helping to shape and inform exhibitions including last year’s ‘GOMA Q’ survey of contemporary Queensland art and a major retrospective of the work of Robert MacPherson and, as part of APT8, oversaw a stunning intervention into the Australian collection hang by Brook Andrew.’ Mr Saines said.
‘On behalf of the Board and staff, I wish to thank Jason for his important and thoughtful contribution to the Gallery – to be found in the relentless intellectual enquiry and rigour, clarity and drive that informed every aspect of his role – and wish him great success for his directorship of one of Australia’s oldest and most highly regarded regional galleries.’
Jason Smith will leave QAGOMA on 11 February.
