Up Late Returns to GOMA in March 2022

Up Late returns to Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) for an outdoor celebration, over two spectacular nights in March, with sets by leading local and interstate musicians and DJs, art-making workshops, dining, bars and more.

Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Director Chris Saines said APT10 Up Late would take over GOMA from 6.00pm to 10.30pm on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 March.

‘We are thrilled to be hosting Up Late during ‘The 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT10), the Gallery’s flagship exhibition showing until 25 April, 2022, and featuring 69 projects by emerging and established artists and collectives from more than 30 countries,’ Mr Saines said.

‘APT10 features diverse contemporary art from the Asia Pacific region in an exhibition rich with stories of travel, journeys, migrations and connections to place.

‘APT10 Up Late is a unique opportunity to experience the Triennial’s vibrancy alongside an exciting line-up of local and interstate acts on the outdoor main stage at GOMA,’ Mr Saines said.

On Friday 18 March, Up Late will feature a powerful performance by Sydney hip hop artist L-FRESH The LION – whose music is inspired by his Punjabi and Sikh roots, a fiercely raw performance by Malyangapa and Barkindji rapper BARKAA, and a glitchy hyperpop set by Brisbane’s LÂLKA.

Live music on Saturday 19 March will include performances by critically acclaimed Butchulla hip hop artist BIRDZ, scintillating Sydney-based Korean rap crew 1300 and Indian-Australian electronic pop hitmaker ASHWARYA.

Visitors to APT10 Up Late can channel their creative energy with drop-in art making workshops on the GOMA Bistro Lawn designed by APT10 artists Phuong Ngo and Vipoo Srivilasa. Phuong Ngo’s Mooncakes for Friends invites audiences of all ages to craft a decorative plasticine mooncake with a hidden message, while Vipoo Srivilasa’s Deity Crowns invites you to make a wearable animal deity headpiece with patterns inspired by the artist.

Capacity on each night is limited, which means there is plenty of room to enjoy APT10 Up Late safely. Live music will take place under the stars (and a marquee) with lots of fresh air and space to move. Ticket holders must check in on arrival to confirm they are fully vaccinated and wear a mask indoors. All payments are contactless for visitor safety.
